The Holy Spirit Explained
April 12, 2026Pastor Patrick presented today's message, "The Holy Spirit Explained." A video of today's message is here on YouTube. It may help to be familiar with the message but that is not required to enjoy the thoughts below.
Just as there are many names for God, each trying to point out or describe an attribute of God, there are likewise many names for the Holy Spirit also trying to highlight various attributes. Here's one run down by BibleHub.com: What are the names of the Holy Spirit?. Here's a list of the names described: Spirit of God, Spirit of the LORD (Yahweh), Holy Spirit, Spirit of Christ, The Helper/Advocate, Spirit of Truth, Spirit of Holiness, Eternal Spirit, Spirit of Life, Spirit of Grace, Spirit of Glory, The Counselor, The Breath of the Almighty, Good Spirit, and Spirit of Adoption.
Here is GotQuestions.org's discussion titled: What was the role of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament?. Four aspects of the Holy Spirit are discussed here: regeneration, indwelling (or filling), restraint, and empowerment.
My favorite description of the Holy Spirit comes from the Creation Story, the breath or wind of God moving across the void (Genesis 1:2). Wind, something you can feel and know is there but cannot see. God's dynamic presence that gives life to everything.

The Story of Everything (movie)
From the webpage: "The Story of Everything [includes a trailer] is a cinematic exploration of the cosmos that reveals the hidden hand behind our universe. From the precise laws that govern the stars to the intricate patterns found in every living cell, the film traces evidence of intentional design throughout nature. Whether examining distant star-forming clouds or the spiral structure of DNA, we discover a consistent signature woven into the fabric of existence."I can attest for one of the key players, Stephen Meyer, who wrote a book I read: Return of the God Hypothesis: Three Scientific Discoveries That Reveal the Mind Behind the Universe.
