Holy Spirit - Fruit
November 21, 2021Today's message was the fourth in a series about the Holy Spirit (given today by Josh Starnes). The message is here.
"Fruit" in the Torah tends to be more concrete: fruit of the vine, fruit of the cattle, fruit of the land, fruit of your fathers.. It's the sense of bringing forth or a benefit derived from something. It also has the sense of going on throughout time (as in ancestry, fruit of the fathers). Isaiah promises that the Spirit would bring about abundant fertility, fruitfulness, in a number of ways: righteousness, patience, peace, joy, etc. - a list similar to Paul's in Galations 5:22-23. See also Joel 2:28-32 and Psalm 1:3.
Here's a rather lengthy but valuable article about Old (and New) Testament references to the "Fruits" as enumerated by Paul: peace, joy, kindness, etc. The article is here.
